DENMARK CHOOSES THE PROMISED LAND

Deadline, among other outlets reported earlier this week that Denmark has chosen to submit The Promised Land for the International film Academy Award.

The Promised Land is being distributed domestically by Magnolia Pictures and is set for U.S. release on Feb. 2, 2024.

SPEAKING OF INTERNATIONAL FILMS

Indiewire's Anne Thompson's current handicapping of the Oscar race for Best International Film has a huge TFF #50 flavor.

Thompson lists six films as "Frontrunners" all of which were playing at Telluride four weeks ago.  They are:

“The Monk and the Gun” (Pawo Choyning Dorji, Bhutan)
“Perfect Days” (Wim Wenders, Japan)
“The Promised Land” (Nikolaj Arcel, Denmark)
“The Taste of Things” (Tràn Anh Hùng, France)
“The Teachers’ Lounge” (İlker Çatak, Germany)
“The Zone of Interest” (Jonathan Glazer, United Kingdom)

Additionally Thompson includes a couple of contenders including TFF films:

"Fallen Leaves" (Aki Kaurismaki, Finland)
"Godland” (Hlynur Pálmason, Iceland-TFF #49

Could this be the year where all nominees in a category screened over Labor Day at The SHOW?

TRAILER FOR ALL OF US STRANGERS

Searchlight released a trailer for Andrew Haigh's All of Us Strangers last Thursday.   The release came just a bit too late for my regular post then so I have included it today.  All of Us Strangers stars Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal.  It is set for a limited release on Dec. 22nd.

INTERNATIONAL SUBMISSIONS

The United Kingdom chooses The Zone of Interest.

The United Kingdom has selected Jonathan Glazer's The Zone of Interest as its choice to compete for the Best International Film Oscar.  The choice was not a surprise.  The film won the Grand Prize at Cannes last May (just behind Palme d'Or winner and fellow TFF #50 selection Anatomy of a Fall).

Zone is a very likely nominee and possible winner in this category.

France chooses The Taste of Things.  That was, perhaps, a bit of a surprise as Anatomy of a Fall might have been the more likely choice after having won the Palma d'Or at Cannes last May.  Vanity Fair, among other outlets reported the choice.

DADDIO HAS A HOME

Deadline has reported that Christy Hall's Daddio has been acquired for distribution by Sony Pictures Classics.  No word yet on release plans for the film that stars Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson.

7) Rustin (7.42) [8/7]
8) The Bikeriders (7.09) [9/10]
9) Nyad (7.06) [11/9]
10) Fingernails (6.59) [10/12]

As you can see, ten films earned enough views from both the Pros and the People to make the composite list.  In the case of The Pros, enough saw The Taste of Things and El Conde to make their list but not The People's.  Whereas enough of The People saw Perfect Days, Daddio, Janet Planet, The Royal Hotel, Tuesday and Wildcat to make that list but miss making it on The Pros list.  Leaving ten films with sufficient ratings from each poll to make The Composite.

The only serious disconnect between the two polls this year was over Emerald Fennell's Saltburn which the Pros liked quite a bit more than the people.

If you're talking the Best Picture Oscar, ending up in the top spot for The Composite Telluride used to be a good place to be.  Since I started it, The Composite Telluride has pointed to the Best Picture winners from 2012-2017 and again in 2019 but since then, not so much.

For Oscar 2024, Poor Things is positioned to have a fighting chance at the Best Picture Oscar but at this point I still think that's likely to go to either Oppenheimer or Killers of the Flower Moon.

After TFF #50 The Composite All Time Top Ten changes as Poor Things enters the list at #8.  The Two Popes from 2019's fest drops from the all time top ten Composite Poll:

1) (TIE) 12 Years a Slave (9.25) 2013 (Won Best Picture)
1) (TIE) Argo (9.25) 2012 (Won Best Picture)
3) Roma (9.20) 2018 (Won Best Foreign Language Film)
4) Moonlight (9.19) 2016 (Won Best Picture)
5) Birdman (9.18) 2014 (Won Best Picture)
6) Parasite (9.11) 2019 (Won Best Picture)
7) Stories We Tell (9.10) 2012
8) Poor Things (9.04) 2023
9) Tim's Vermeer (8.97) 2013
10) The Power of the Dog (8.95) 2021 (Nominated Best Picture)

INDIEWIRE'S 16 BEST FROM THE FESTS AND TFF #50

Indiewire's crew has put together their list of the 16 best films from the just completed run of Telluride-Venice-Toronto film fests.  From that list are seven films that screened at TFF #50:

All of Us Strangers
High and Low: John Galliano
The Holdovers
Janet Planet
The Pigeon Tunnel
Poor Things
The Royal Hotel

AMERICAN SYMPHONY HAS A HOME

News from a number of sources, including The Hollywood Reporter, that Netflix has acquired Matthew Heineman's documentary about Grammy winning musician Jon Batiste and his wife Suleika Jaouad.  American Symphony World Premiered at Telluride on the fest's opening night.

The deal also incudes the participation of Barack and Michelle Obama's production company Higher Ground.

THR reports that a major Oscar push is planned for the film.

LARRAIN TALKS EL CONDE

Writer/Director Pablo Larrain has a new interview with Time.com in which he talks about his TFF #50 selected film El Conde (The Count).  Laura Zornosa wrote the piece.

El Conde is available to stream on Netflix right now if you missed it at TFF.

The Process:  I collated all results that were sent in.  Films that earned ratings from at least 40% of all respondents qualified to make the final listings. 16 films met that threshold.  I added all ratings of a film together and then divided that by the number of ratings it received to arrive at the average rating on a 1-5 scale.

AND SO, HERE ARE YOUR RESULTS FOR THE PEOPLE'S TELLURIDE FOR 2023

1) Poor Things (4.51)
2) Anatomy of a Fall (4.24)
3) The Zone of Interest (4.19)
4) The Holdovers (4.17)

14) The Royal Hotel (3.36)

Seven films earned a 4.00 average or better making 2023 the best year for that statistic since 2013 which had nine (2015 also had seven films rated 4.00 or better).

Poor Things was the most viewed film among respondents to the poll this year with 93% of them having viewed it.  Saltburn was next at 88%.  The Holdovers was third at 75%. The Bikeriders was fourth with 73% and for fifth there was a three way tie between All of Us Strangers, Rustin and The Zone of Interest at 70%.

As a part of Deadline's series of interviews during the Toronto International Film festival, director Alexander Payne sat down and talked about his latest film (and one of the most highly rated and viewed films at Telluride a couple of weeks back) The Holdovers starring Paul Giamatti, Da'vine Joy Randolph and Dominic Sessa.

CHANGES COMING TO YOUR FAVORITE GONDOLA

News from The Telluride Daily Planet:  It appears a new gondola may be on the way to T-ride.  From the story that appeared in the digital version of The Daily Planet on Thursday, Sept. 14th:

"San Miguel County is poised to move forward with a draft intergovernmental agreement for planning the replacement of the current gondola with a new gondola system."

The bare bones of a timeline were also mentioned on the post:

"Wednesday’s work session was a discussion “about a proposed intergovernmental agreement for the planning operations that will be occurring for the next two years to get us to a potential ballot measure and/or other grant opportunities” for the “the ultimate replacement of the gondola as well as continued operations of the gondola post-2027.”

Stay tuned...

900,000 / Continuing to Look at Oscar Experts / Saltburn Trailer / International Affairs/ The People's Telluride-Votes Are Due

900,000

If you're reading this you are someone who has recorded somewhere north of the 900,000th view of MTFB.  We blew through that number yesterday.  I'm stunned.

MTFB has been posted 2,160 times meaning that each post has averaged 417 views.

Hope you'll keep reading.  Om to a million!

CONTINUING TO LOOK AT OSCAR EXPERTS

In the afterglow of TFF #50, I'm continuing to examine the early post-fest Oscar predictions from a number of Oscarologists in terms of how they have TFF #50 titles fairing when Oscar nominations are announced on Jan. 23rd.  I'm currently assessing the eight "above-the-line-categories: Best Picture, Direction, all four acting categories and the two screenplay categories.

In my last post I shared predictions from Variety's top Oscar analyst Clayton Davis.  Today my focus moves to The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg.

Feinberg, as did Davis, has Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things leading the T-ride pack with 5 predicted nominations and one other possibility:

Poor Things: Best Picture, Direction, Actress, Supporting Actor (Ruffalo) and Adapted Screenplay.  The other possibility is a Supporting Actor nomination for Willem Dafoe.

Here's the rest of Feinberg's predictions for Telluride films:

***The Zone of Interest (four nominations and one possibility): Best Picture, Direction, Supporting Actress (Huller), Adapted Screenplay.  The additional possibility is a Best Actor nomination for Christian Freidel.

***Nyad (Three nominations and three other possibilities): Best Picture, Actress (Bening), Supporting Actress (Foster).  Also possible are noms for Direction, Supporting Actor (Ifans) and Adapted Screenplay.

***The Holdovers (Three nominations and two possibilities): Best Picture, Actor (Giamatti) and Original Screenplay.  Possibilities are Direction and Supporting Actress (Randolph).

***Anatomy of a Fall (Three nominations and one added possibility): Best Picture, Actress (Huller) and Original Screenplay.  Also possible: Direction.

***Saltburn (One nomination and two possibles): Best Supporting Actress (Pike) and the possibles are Best Actor (Keoghan) and Original Screenplay.

***Rustin (One nomination and one possibility): Best Actor (Domingo) and a possible for Original Screenplay.

***The Teachers' Lounge (One nomination and one possibility): Original Screenplay with a possible nod for Best Actress (Benesch).

Films with possible shots at nominations but that Feinberg does not have predicted to receive any actual nominations:

***All of Us Strangers with potential nominations for Best Picture, Direction, Actor (Scott) and Adapted Screenplay.

***The Taste of Things with a possible nomination for Best Actress (Binoche).

***The Bikeriders with a possible nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

SALTBURN TRAILER

In all the frenzy as this year's fest was going on, I neglected to post an official trailer for Emerald Fennell's Saltburn.  Here it is from YouTube and MGM:

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

It's that time of year when countries are beginning to submit their choices for consideration for the Best International Film Oscar.

France announced yesterday that their official shortlist includes Justine Triet's Palme d'Or winner Anatomy of a Fall and The Taste of Things both of which screened at TFF #50. Variety, among others reported that.

Also yesterday, Screen Daily revealed that Finland has selected Aki Kaurismaki's Fallen Leaves as its candidate for International Oscar contention.  Fallen Leaves also was a choice of TFF #50.

Earlier this week Iceland chose TFF #49 entry Godland as its selection.  Several nations have already made their submissions which, to no one's surprise, has included some TFF titles including:

The Monk and the Gun (Bhutan)
Perfect Days (Japan)
The Teachers' Lounge (Germany)

The Professionals' Telluride / Re-visiting TFF #50 / Oscar Experts and TFF / Poor Things Wins Venice / Me and The BBC / Trailers: Nyad and The Royal Hotel / The People's elluride

 THE PROFESSIONALS' TELLURIDE

As I have been doing since 2012, I asked a panel of 18 industry journalists, bloggers and professionals to rate the films they saw at TFF #50.

A couple of notes by way of explanation.  The Pros were asked to rate the films they saw on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being not-so-very-good and 5 being "fantastic".  Additionally, a film had to be rated by more than half of this year's panel of pros to make the list.

I am, as always, indebted to all of the industry professionals who took time from their crazy busy schedules to provide me their feedback.  I can't adequately express my appreciation.

Here's this year's panel:

Erik Anderson/Awards Watch
J. Don Birnam-Jorge T/SplashReport.com
Clayton Davis/Variety
Marshall Flores/Awards Daily
Mark Johnson/Awards Daily and Good as Gold
Dave Karger/Turner Classic Movies
Joey Magidson/Awards Radar
Ryan McQuade/Awards Watch
Scott Menzel/We Live Entertainment
Clarence Moye/Awards Daily
Matt Neglia/Next Best Picture
Christopher Schiller/ScriptMag.com
Sasha Stone/Awards Daily
Anne Thompson/Indiewire
Chris Willman/Variety
Anonymous

Past toppers for each Pro Poll and their average rating have been:

2012: The Central Park Five (4.7)
2013: 12 Years a Slave (4.7)
2014: Birdman (4.72)
2015: Son of Saul (4.44)
2016: Moonlight (4.82)
2017: The Shape of Water (4.5)
2018: Roma (4.73)
2019: Parasite (4.75)
2020: No Fest
2021:Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (4.44)
2022: TAR (3.93)

To qualify for inclusion a film had to have been seen by at least half of The Professionals.  So using that metric Here is the Professionals' Poll for TFF #50:

1) Poor Things (4.53)
2) Anatomy of a Fall (4.44)
3) The Taste of Things (4.43)
4) The Holdovers (4.21)
5) The Zone of Interest (4.15)
6) All of Us Strangers (3.92)
7) Saltburn (3.89)
8) Rustin (3.42)
9) The Bikeriders (3.23)
10) Fingernails (3.13)
11) Nyad (3.11)
12) El Conde (2.68)

The films that were seen by the most pros were Poor Things and The Bikeriders.  Each was seen by 15 out of the 16.  Next in line were The Holdovers and Saltburn which were watched by 14 of the 16.

It's interesting to note that five films reached a better average score from this year's lineup than last year's top average for TAR (3.93).

After this year's poll, The Professionals' All Time Top Ten (through 2023) looks like this with Poor Things entering the all time Pros Top Ten at #9.  Son of Saul and Marcel the Shell with Shoes On which had been tied for the all time #10 spot were displaced.

1) Moonlight (4.87) (16)
2) Parasite (4.75) (19)
3) Roma (4.73) (18)
4) Birdman (4.72) (14)
5) 12 Years a Slave (4.70-tie) (13)
6) Central Park Five (4.70-tie) (12)
7) Foxcatcher (4.63) (14)
8) La La Land (4.58) (16)
9) Poor Things (4.53) (23)
10) Argo (4.50-tie) (12)
10) The Shape of Water (4.50-tie) (17)

RE-VISITING TFF #50

***My first thought is how solid TFF in 2023 was.  The lineup was varied and deep.  I was particularly taken with The Holdovers, The Zone of Interest, The Bikeriders and Poor Things.  I missed getting in All of Us Strangers, Anatomy of a Fall and Nyad which were on my initial list to get to during the festival but I got to add Daddio, Tuesday and The Falling Stars all of which I enjoyed/admired.

The fest was DEEP!

***As always, it's great to see friends and colleagues at the festival and catch up.  It's also fun to make new friends.  Do I always get to run into people I want to see?  Nope.  But I got to see some folks who returned to the fest after having been absent for a bit.  Always nice.

***Also always nice is meeting readers of the blog. That might be the best part!  It's certainly not the "perks".  Absent the accreditation as a journalist there aren't any perks.

***Readership really exploded this year.  It always spikes in August and September as the fest approaches and then happens but 2023 blew through previous highs for views.  As I post this morning MTFB has had approximately 78,000 views in the last 40 days.

***For those who missed it-MTFB went 24/25 on The Final Bets this year.  6 of 10 from the Original Ten bets back in June and the overall percentage of correct predictions from the final posted since I started recording these as "Bets" is 97%.

OSCAR EXPERTS AND TFF

I ran down some of the latest projections from some serious Oscarologists after the fest concluded.  Thee are projections post-Telluride and with a good portion of Venice concluded.  I'll be passing some of these along in the context of TFF #50 films over the next week to ten days.  In each case I'm looking at their projections in the eight "above-the-line categories: Best Picture, Direction, the four acting categories and the two screenplay categories.

Starting with Clayton Davis at Variety who projects:

Poor Things with five nominations with one other possibility: Best Picture, Direction (Lanthimos), Actress (Stone), Supporting Actor (Ruffalo) and Adapted Screenplay.  The Other possibility is a second Supporting Actor nomination for Willem Dafoe.  As an aside, I fully expect Poor Things will load on craft nominations as well.  I can see the film grabbing double digit nominations when Oscar noms are announced on Jan. 23rd.

The Zone of Interest with four nominations: Best Picture, Direction (Glazer), Actress (Huller) and Adapted Screenplay.

The Holdovers with three nominations and an additional possibility: Best Picture, Actor (Giamatti) and Original Screenplay.  The added possibility is a nomination for Alexander Payne for direction.

All of Us Strangers with one nomination and two other chances: Best Adapted Screenplay.  The other shots are Actor (Scott) and Supporting Actor (Bell).

Saltburn with one nomination and another possibility: Best Original Screenplay.  The other chance is Best Picture.

Rustin is projected to have a Best Actor nomination for Coleman Domingo.

TFF #50 films that Davis does not have predicted with a nomination but does have close enough to be considered potentials include:

An astounding six "maybes" for The Bikeriders: Best Picture, Direction (Nichols), Actor (Butler), Supporting Actress (Comer), Supporting Actor (Hardy) and Original Screenplay.

Nyad with a shot for Annette Bening as Best Actress.

Anatomy of a Fall possible for Best Original Screenplay.

POOR THINGS WINS IN VENICE

Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things, which screened to pack houses at Telluride last week, has won The Golden Lion, the top prize given at the 80th Venice Film festival.  Two other TFF films earned honors from Venice juries.  Pablo Larrain won Best Screenplay for El Conde and Alex Braverman's Andy Kaufman documentary Thank You Very Much was named Best Documentary in the Venice Classics section.

ME AND THE BBC

I wrote last week that I had been approached by the BBC to be interviewed for their program Talking Movies with Tom Brook.  I said "sure" and that interview occurred a week ago on Sunday.

Well, the program appeared on the BBC yesterday and here in the USA on BBC News.  I lifted it and edited it to focus on my "appearance".  I'm in twice and my guest star is Anne Thompson of Indiewire:

Post TFF 50 / Oscar Thoughts/ The Bikeriders Trailer / The People's Telluride

POST TFF 50

Random thoughts as we look at TFF #50 for the first time in the rearview mirror.

***The tradition continues.  Once again I went 24 out of 25 on the Final Bets posting.  I had The Settlers in the #25 spot.  That apparently was filled by the sneak of Totem.  In addition to the 24 on the actual list one of the other "possibles" made the lineup-Daina O. Pusic's Tuesday.

Here's the track record for the past several years:

2022: 24 of 25
2021: 24 of 25
2020: No fest
2019: 24 of 25
2018: 25 of 25
2017: 24 of 25
2016: 20 of 20

With the 2023 total added in, over eight years MTFB is 140/145.  Accurate 97% of the time.

***I thought the lineup was strong across the board this year and that sentiment seemed to be echoed across the journalists and pundits I spook with but also standing in line with the other passholders.  It'll be interesting to see if The People's Poll, The Professional's Poll or both bear that out with hard numbers.

***I'm looking to post The Pros next Monday and The People on the following Monday (Sept. 18) with The Composite poll capping our numbers game on Thursday, Sept. 21.

OSCAR THOUGHTS

Here's my early post T-ride take on Oscar chances for some TFF #50 films:

***Poor Things is likely going to be the most nominated film with a Telluride pedigree.  I can see nominations for Best Picture, Direction, Actress (Stone), Supporting Actor-maybe times two Ruffalo (and possibly Dafoe), Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Production Design, Makeup/Hair, Costumes. Maybe Original Score and Visual Effects.

***The Holdovers might be the most popular title in terms of mass appeal,  Possible nominations for Picture, Direction, Actor (Giamatti), Supporting Actress (Randolph), Original Screenplay.  Maybe Supporting Actor (Sessa).

***The Bikeriders-There was a good deal of buzz around the performances of Austin Butler, Tom Hardy and especially Jodie Comer.  Enough to land each of them nominations?  Hard to tell.  Would three acting nominations manifest a Best Picture nomination?  Possibly.

***Nyad-Actress (Bening), Supporting Actress (Foster).  Maybe Picture, Direction, Cinematography and Adapted Screenplay.

***Rustin-Actor (Domingo)  Maybe Original Screenplay...outside shot at Best Picture.

***All of Us Strangers- Actor (Scott), Supporting Actor (Mescal)  Lots of people loved this film last weekend.  It could land in the conversation for Adapted Screenplay and Picture

***Saltburn- Barry Keoghan is a possibility  for Best Actor but Emerald Fennell's sophomore effort might have been the most divisive film from TFF #50.

***I'd love to see Sean Penn and (I can't believe I'm writing this) Dakota Johnson get some attention for Daddio along with Christy Hall for writing the screenplay.  It's be cool, too, if Julia Louis-Dreyfus made some noise for her turn in Tuesday.

***Docs: The Pigeon Tunnel, American Symphony, Tehacapi, Beyond Utopia and Food Inc. 2.

***International: Perfect Days, The Teachers' Lounge, La Chimera, Fallen Leaves, The Zone of Interest, Anatomy of a Fall, The Taste of Things

So Long T-ride / Me and the BBC / The People's Telluride

SO LONG T-RIDE

Well, another fest is in the books and TFF #50 lived up to the hype.  We.ve been coming since 2006 and I've been blogging since 2008.  That's right MTFB is 15 years old.  I'm not quite up to a million views yet but MTFB is closing in.  Just this last month run-up to the fest and the fest itself have racked up nearly 70,000 views.

This year, like every year, it's been great to touch base face-to-face with blog readers and especially with followers which have become friends.  It's also always nice to run into journalists that I have made acquaintance with and in some cases friends with over these past few years.

The Fest's hierarchy has decided that what I do doesn't merit accreditation as a journalist but many in the community of writers who cover this weekend have been supportive.  It's very likely you'll see some reference to MTFB in the coming days as I collate and publish the results of The People's Telluride poll (see solicitation below) and The Professionals' Telluride poll as well as the Composite of the two.  If past years are any indication, MTFB will pop-up in a number of journalistic publications.

Here's what I saw in chronological order:

American Symphony (with performance)
Saltburn
The Bikeriders
The Holdovers
Fallen Leaves
The Zone of Interest
Rustin
Poor Things
El Conde
Tuesday
The Falling Star
Daddio

Wanted to get: All of Us Strangers, Anatomy of a Fall and Nyad... but things happen.

We're headed back to the Oklahoma Panhandle as you read this...and it seems for those of you who saw Daddio...that's a reference.

ME AND THE BBC

Yes.  It's true, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) interviewed me this week in Telluride.  The BBC's "Talking Movies" had some questions regarding Telluride's history and its Oscar presence.  I did my best to answer their questions.

"Talking Movies" host Tom Brook tells me that the Telluride episode will air this coming weekend on the BBC in Europe and on BBC America.

THE PEOPLE'S TELLURIDE FOR TFF #50

Once again MTFB is soliciting your input for The People's Telluride.  All you have to do is watch films during the fest and then, when it's all over, report to me your assessment of each film on a 1-5 scale with 1 being "UGH!" and 5 being "GREAT".

TFF #50 Day Four / TBAs for Sunday, Sept. 3rd. / For Those Counting... / The People's Telluride

 TFF #50 DAY FOUR

Two challenging films today and one other a bit more conventional

*The Zone of Interest...you have to invest yourself in the first 90-95 minutes for the last 10-15 to land.  and it lands hard.  A brilliant conclusion makes the investment worth it.  It's breathtaking film making.

*Rustin-Domingo Coleman is awe-inspiring as the titular character in this biopic of the organizer behind the 1963 March on Washington.  Expect his name to be called on Oscar Nomination morning.  Jeffrey Wright shines in support as Congressman Adam Clayton Powell.

*Poor Things-So much to chew on. Emma Stone-great.  Mark Ruffalo-great.  Willem Dafoe-great.  Inventive visually and conceptually.

Tomorrow will start for me with Pablo Larrain's El Conde and then we'll vamp from that point on.

TBA'S FOR SUNDAY, SEPT. 3RD

Palm Theater• 7PM - POOR THINGS

Chuck Jones' Cinema• 1PM - Sneak Preview: THREE SONGS ABOUT TOM LUDDY + THEY SHOT THE PIANO PLAYER with Q&A

Nugget Theater• 3PM - TEHACHAPI

• 5:45PM - Sneak Preview: THE TASTE OF THINGS with Q&A

Masons Hall Cinema• 9PM - STUDENT PRINTS

Le Pierre• 9:30PM BEYOND UTOPIA

FOR THOSE COUNTING...

It appears that I will go 24/25 on the Final Bets accuracy.  It also looks like MTFB had 6 of 10 correct from the very first "Ten Bets" from back in June.

THE PEOPLE'S TELLURIDE FOR TFF #50

For the 11th non-consecutive year MTFB is soliciting your input for The People's Telluride.  All you have to do is watch films during the fest and then, when it's all over, report to me your assessment of each film on a 1-5 scale with 1 being "UGH!" and 5 being "GREAT".

THURSDAY'S FILMS

American Symphony is a triumph.
Saltburn is beautiful to look at but derivative, tonally inconsistent, a bit long and tries to cram in way tooo much in the final 30 minutes.  And as my wife says..."cringe".
