Guess What Happens This Week?/Invites/A Look a Three Possibles/I'm Not the Only One/ICYMI: New Material from Saturday

Good Monday!  Best Monday of the year...because...

GUESS WHAT HAPPENS THIS WEEK?

The 40th Telluride Film Festival opens Thursday.  But in some ways it starts even sooner.  For example, this reminder that there will be a free concert at Town Park Stage at 5:00pm Wednesday evening with The Punch Brothers.  The Punch Brothers will appear this fall on the soundtrack for "Inside Llewyn Davis"  Draw your own conclusions.

Here's the link to the story that appeared this weekend in The Telluride Watch:

Additionally, the word is that Tuesday night there will be a screening in Elks Park (as there is every year before the fest).  Usually these pre-fest screenings give clues as to at least one of the tribute honorees. Without giving away the farm...I can tell you that I have an unconfirmed report that the film Tuesday night will star Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi.  Bowling may be central to the plot of the film.  No word yet if there will be another film on Wednesday night...but I wouldn't be surprised.

You know it's nearly SHOW time when stories like this begin to appear...an ode to the volunteers that make the festival possible from The Los Angeles Times:

INVITATIONS...PLEASE JOIN ME...

Invite #1: Don't forget to drop by The River Club (550 W. Depot in Telluride) at 5:00 pm on Thursday for the Third Annual "Guide to the Ride".  Friends, food, a little vino and we'll talk about what's going to happen over Labor Day weekend in Telluride.

Invite #2:  Don't forget to rate the films you see this week and drop me a line so I can include them in this year's "People's Telluride" film ratings.

Invite #3: Check out Screencraft.org starting Wednesday for my guest writer spot on their blog.

A LOOK AT THREE POSSIBLES

The weekend gave us an opportunity to view some pics, clips or trailers from at least three films that theoretically could be on the T-ride lineup when its announced Wednesday around noon-ish.  They are Roger Michell's "Le Week-end", Jean-Marc Vallee's "Dallas Buyers Club" and John Curran's "Tracks".  Of the three you have to think that "Le Week-end" is the most likely with "Tracks" next and "Dallas Buyers" least likely (though, of the three, "Dallas" is the one I'd most like to see).

Take a look at these posts from The Playlist and FirstShowing.net:

I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE

I'm not the only one that takes a stab at guessing/deducing the field for this weekend's festival.  Lane Scarberry, writing for Soundonsight.org, has posted her best shot/wish list for this week's 40th TFF. Lane has had a seven relationship with the fest so probably knows a thing or two about what we might expect.  It may not surprise you that the films on her list should generally be pretty familiar:
