GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS AND TFF
It was a tough morning for TFF films today as TFF #49 (and #48) films were nominated for a meager total of nine Golden Globes. TAR led TFF films with three nominations. Here's the list:
TAR (3): Best Picture-Drama, Actress (Blanchett), Screenplay
Women Talking (2): Best Screenplay and Score
Living (1): Best Actor/Drama (Nighy)
Empire of Light (1): Best Actress/Drama (Colman)
Close (1): Best Picture Not in the English Language
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (from TFF #48) (1): Best Animated Film
LOS ANGELES FILM CRITICS ASSOCIATION AND NEW YORK FILM CRITICS ONLINE AND TFF
The Los Angeles Critics showed quite a bit of love to Telluride films Sunday with Todd Field's TAR getting the most of it. TAR was named Best Film, and Field was named for Best Direction and Best Screenplay while Cate Blanchett was named co-winner for Best Lead Performance. TAR also was runner-up for Best Editing.
Other TFF participants winning plaudits from the L.A. critics were:
Bill Nighy co-winner for Best Lead Performance in Living.
All the Beauty and the Bloodshed for Best Documentary
Aftersun for Best Editing
Jesse Buckley was co-runner-up for Best Supporting Performance for Women Talking
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On was runner-up for Best Animated Film (TFF #48)
Meanwhile the New York Film Critics Online were much less enamored of TFF films with limited mentions.
TAR and Women Talking were named to the NYFCO 10 Best of 2022 list.
All the Beauty and the Bloodshed was named Best Documentary
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On was named Best Animated Film
Charlotte Wells was named Best Debut Director for Aftersun
NBR AND AFI AND TFF #49
The national Board of Review and the American Film Institute named their "Best Of" lists this week. Here's how Telluride films fared from those organizations.
The National Board of Review awarded the following to TFF films:
Best Directorial Debut: Charlotte Wells/Aftersun
Best Animated Film: Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (from TFF #48)
Best International Film: Close
Best Documentary: Sr.
Best Acting Ensemble: Women Talking
Freedom of Expression Award: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed
Top 10 Films of the Year included Aftersun and Women Talking
Top 5 Documentaries included All the Beauty and the Bloodshed and Wildcat
Top 10 Independent Films included Armageddon Time, Living and The Wonder
Top Gun: Maverick was named Best Film of the Year by NBR.
The American Film Institute list of the the 10 Best Films of 2022 included TFF #49 films TAR and Women Talking.
