PRODUCERS NOMINATE
The Producers Guild announced its 10 nominees for Best Picture yesterday. Here they are:
“Argo”
“Beasts of the Southern Wild”
“Django Unchained”
“Les Miserables"
"Life of Pi”
“Lincoln”
“Moonrise Kingdom”
“Silver Linings Playbook"
“Skyfall”
“Zero Dark Thirty"
Last year 7 of the 9 Best Picture Oscar nominees were also Producers Guild nominees. The absence of "Amour" may be a sign that its Best Picture nomination chances are in trouble. Same for Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master".

GATEKEEPERS
The well received Israeli documentary "The Gatekeepers" is spilling out all over as it gets closer to Oscar time. An official trailer was released via Facebook yesterday. Additionally, it had a big time premiere this week in Israel which included a number of the interviewees.

AMOUR
Actress Emanuelle Riva has a better than average shot at getting an Oscar nomination for best actress when the nominations are announced next week.
The New York Times published a profile of the octogenarian this week. You'll find a link to that story here:

OSCAR MATTERS
The Academy announced this week that the Oscar nominating deadline has been extended by 24 hours as a response to reported issues/difficulties with the new online voting process. There is also some scuttlebutt that along with the earlier deadline date has depressed Oscar turnout.
Also, I had planned to include the pre-Oscar commentary from some of my friends that are voters or are in "The Biz" in today's post but that's going to have to wait until Monday's post. Life events have conspired to alter my plans this week. My apologies.

COMING ATTRACTIONS
Well, this week, it's the reminder that Oscar nominations are due one week from today. MTFB/The FAC will post it's final full FAC on Monday. I also expect that I will post FLASH reports through the next week as warranted (for example, the Producers Guild announces nominees next week prior to the Oscar announcement...I'll post that). Stayed tuned for any and all late breaking Oscar news.
