LATE BREAKING: NEWS FROM THE NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL

LATE BREAKING...

As expected this morning, the Main Slate of the New York Film Festival was announced by The Film Society of Lincoln Center.  Here's what we can glean from the films and their premiere status:

Films that are OUT for a TFF play as they are listed as a North American or U.S. Premiere for NYFF:

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
Three Faces
Ash Is the Purest White
High Life
Happy as Lazarro
Long Days Journey Into Night
Sorry Angel
The Image Book

Seem to be confirmed because of lack of premiere status:

Roma
The Favourite
Cold War
Non-Fiction
Shoplifters

And it seems no new films confirmed for Telluride from the information from the New York list.  The other "no premiere status" films are Private Life and Wildlife which earned their status because of bowing at Sundance and Burning which will have played Fantastic Fest before screening in New York.

Coming on Friday we should see the schedule for films screening at the Venice Film Festival, which although not definitive in and of themselves, can offer clues about which films that are screening there could conceivably also make the lineup for TFF #45.  For example, if Errol Morris' American Dharma is scheduled Aug.29-31 or Sept. 6-8...that would indicate at least a temporal possibility for the documentary to play both in Venice and Telluride.

Based on last year's fests, I am expecting a half a dozen or so films to play both places.  We already are expecting: First Man, Roma, The Favourite and Peterloo.
