Others: Jacob Elordi/Frankenstein, DelRoy Lindo/Sinners and Jeremy Strong/Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere.

Comment: Also a very stable category with the exception of Jacob Elordi jumping into the #6 spot.

HAMNET WINS ANOTHER AUDIENCE AWARD

Chloe Zhao's Hamnet won the Toronto Film Festival Audience Award in September and last week added that same accolade from the BFI London Film Festival.  Additionally the film tied with Rental Family for the Audience Award the Middleburg Film Fest.

Last week Gold Derby reported that Hamnet had slipped by One Battle After Another to become (by the slimmest of margins) their predicted favorite to win Best Picture.  As of this morning that was still holding true.

Cousins Return?/"Youth" Arrives in December/"Three Generations" Release Date Too/Thompson Talks "Carol" with Haynes and Nagy

Welcome to Wednesday...

COUSINS RETURN

Mark Cousins had been a consistent part of the Telluride program this last half decade until last year. Cousins had been involved in Telluride's program for many years beginning in 2009 with "The First Movie" and continuing in  2011 with "The Story of Film: An Odyssey".  He continued in 2012 with "What is this Film Called Love?" and in 2013 with "The Story of Children and Film" and "Here Be Dragons".

In 2014 Cousins didn't make the Telluride SHOW (despite having "Life May Be" as a possible entrant).

So, in 2015?  Cousins could return.  His "I Am Belfast" is finished and has been announced for the Karlovy Vary documentary lineup (that fest runs in early July).  Cousins has often played Karlovy Vary prior to bringing his films to Telluride.

I have linked a couple of stories about the announcement of "I Am Belfast's" inclusion for the Karlovy Vary Fest as well as the film's IMDb page:

"YOUTH" ARRIVES IN DECEMBER

Fox Searchlight has dated Paolo Sorrentino's Cannes competition entry "Youth" for a Dec. 4 release date in the U.S. according to Anne Thompson/Thompson on Hollywood:

http://blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/cannes-youth-gets-awards-friendly-release-date-20150602

The awards friendly date continues to suggest that the film which received relatively good reviews, especially for Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel and Jane Fonda's performances, could easily slide into the program in T-ride on Labor Day.  Sorrentino's last film "The Great Beauty" won the Best Foreign Language Oscar in 2014.

"THREE GENERATIONS" RELEASE DATE TOO

The Weinstein Company is wasting little time.  TWC acquired Gaby Dellal's transgender drama "Three Generations" for $6 million during the Cannes Fest last month and has already slated it for a September release.  The 18th to be exact.  That's a small two week window after this year's Telluride Fest begins but it's not without precedent that a TWC film could play T-ride and then hit theaters that quickly.

Two years ago, "Salinger" opened in the U.S. a week after it was s screened in Telluride.  So don't count out "Three Generations" in your Telluride speculation.

THOMPSON TALKS "CAROL" WITH HAYNES AND NAGY

Anne Thompson recently talked to "Carol" director Todd Haynes and screen writer Phyllis Nagy about the upcoming film starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

TTSS One Sheet/Pix of Ides/Mirren into Spector/Twixt...

Good Morning Starshine...the Earth says, "Hello"

TINKER, TAILOR...

Tomas Alfredson's adaptation of the John LeCarre spy novel "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" has a one sheet out and online...as you can see above.  Thanks to The Playlist at Indiewire for the story and link to the picture.
Interestingly, for the second time we have a story that mentions Telluride as a possible destination for this film this fall (in the context of the Telluride, Venice, Toronto triumvirate).
You can find that post here:

IDES OF RYAN

Also up yesterday, via Brad Brevet at Rope of Silicon, a picture of Ryan Gosling at work on the set of the George Clooney political thriller "The Ides of March."  "Ides" has been tapped to open the Venice Festival.  I'm hoping that it follows the same path that "Black Swan" did last year and opens Venice and then is included as a sneak (or a tribute) on Telluride's schedule.  It would also get Clooney in town to support the anticipated presence of his star turn in Alexander Payne's "The Descendants."

The link to that story at ROS is here:

MIRREN INTO SPECTOR

Helen Mirren who won the 2006 Best Actress Oscar  for "The Queen" and who was in  Telluride in 2009 with "The Last Station" ad Oscar nominated for that, has been a busy woman since.  Now comes the news from The Wrap that she has been tapped to replace Bette Middler in the David Mamet directed Phil Spector biopic starring Al Pacino as the creator of "The Wall of Sound."

Mirren will play a defense attorney for Spector in the film.  As we look ahead to TFFs 39 or 40, this project will probably be on our Telluride film watch list.

The Wrap's story is here:

TWIXT...FROM COPPOLA

Also news last night that SlashFilm had the first look at Francis Ford Coppola's "Twixt" (the title of which has been "Twixt Now and Sunrise").  The post features a really interesting picture from the set of Coppola and Elle Fanning.  See...

"Twixt" is described as a "sort of" gothic thriller.  Coppola has been a part of Telluride's film fest in the past so I have thought that there has been a possibility that we could see this film in the San Juans over Labor Day weekend...but I wouldn't hold my breath for very long...as the Slashfilm story reports "Twixt" will be previewed at Comic Con this coming weekend...so that almost certainly nukes it for Telluride.

SlashFilm's story is here:
