The People of "No"/Gatekeepers Crashing the Oscar Gates/Riva FTW?

Good Thursday to All...

You can tell that we're in that lull between the Oscar nominations and the ballots being cast.  Voting starts today and runs through Feb. 19 though there have been reports that paper ballots were in some hands yesterday...

Nevertheless, this lull has extended to news about TFF films...there just hasn't been a lot to talk about since Monday's post.

THE PEOPLE OF "NO"

An Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Film, "No" from Pablo Larrain and starring Gael Garcia Bernal is considered a long shot to win but was generally well received at Telluride.

THE GATEKEEPERS CRASHING THE OSCAR GATES

"The Gatekeepers" is a documentary focusing on the Israeli intelligence community and is Oscar nominated.  It's generally thought to be "Searching for Sugarman" for the win and is most prognosticators #2 choice in that category.

Recently The Gothamist talked to director Dror Moreh:

RIVA FOR THE WIN?

Over the last two weeks, or so, there has been a light buzz among a number of the Oscar punditry that an upset might be afoot in the Best Actress category.  Throughout the Oscar season, the presumed front runner has been Jennifer Lawrence with a stern challenge from Jessica Chastain.  Some of the Chastain fervor has waned of late as a result of the purported controversy surrounding "Zero Dark Thirty" and Lawrence's track record through the precursor awards.

But I've been seeing some movement in commentary at least, that "Amour's" Emanuelle Riva is sneaking into the conversation.  Kris Tapley at InContention.com has said as much himself.  So, what has been thought to be a generally closed contest, might just get interesting the last couple of weeks before the ceremony on Feb. 24.

Following that theme, here's an article from The Guardian suggesting that Riva has a real shot:
