Spotlight on "Birdman"/Mike Leigh talks to Poland/"Leviathan" Roll Continues/New "Foxcatcher" Poster

Welcome to Monday...

Fox Searchlight dropped a new "Meet the Cast" featurette on YouTube this week.  I have linked to it here:

Meanwhile IndieWire's Boyd van Hoeij ponders the effect of the success of Inarritu/"Birdman" (and Cuaron and Del Toro) on the film makers of Mexico in this story:

Additionally, Variety reports that "Birdman" will expand into more markets/theaters in the next couple of weeks owing to its successful opening at specialty houses.  The Variety story is here:

"Mr. Turner" director (and potential Oscar nominee for Directing, Screenplay and Best Picture) Mike Leigh recently spent some time with Dave Poland for his DP30 series on Movie City News.  Here is the link to that conversation:

Andrey Zvyagintsev's "Leviathan" continued picking up hardware this past week as it was named winner of the Black Pearl Award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.  That follows its win recently at the BFI London Film Fest as Best Picture.  "Leviathan" was #5 on The Professionals' ratings from Telluride and is Russia's entry for Best Foreign Language Oscar consideration...and might well be the favorite.

The Hollywood Reporter has the coverage:

Sony Pictures Classics has released a new poster for Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher".  The film is set to be released on Nov. 14th.  The new poster (as you can see above) features the three main actor/characters from the chilling and brilliant film.

More on Thursday...
