"12 Years a Slave" Wins Five Independent Spirit Awards. Will Oscar Duplicate?


Independent film was honored last night by The Independent Spirit Awards.  "12 Years a Slave" had a big night winning five awards.  It's also possible that each of the four Indy winners from last night's acting categories will get another chance at a speech tonight as these wards could well overlap Oscar 100%.

Best Editing: Nat Sanders, Short Term 12

Best International Film: Blue Is The Warmest Color

Best Documentary: 20 Feet from Stardom

Best First Feature: Ryan Coogler, Fruitvale Station

Best First Screenplay: Bob Nelson, Nebraska

John Cassavetes Award: This Is Martin Bonner

Robert Altman Award for Best Ensemble: Mud
