More Toronto Musings/Margarethe/Pi VIew

Good Wednesday to All!

MORE TORONTO MUSINGS

After the announced first wave of Galas and Special Presentations from Toronto yesterday I made my usual observation that there is a significant overlap between the Toronto and T-ride in terms of films they will share and that history bears this out.  I've gone back the last five years to come up with the list from each year of films that played in both places.  Here that is:

As you can see, it's rather extensive each year.  On average the festivals share 16-17 films and 6-8 are in Toronto's Gala or Special Presentation category.  So the trick is figuring out what those might be...

MARGARETHE

I noticed yesterday that Toronto has programmed Margarethe Von Trotta's "Hannah Arendt".  That reminded me that Von Trotta had been feted in Telluride as a  2009 tributee and made me think that it's entirely possible that we could see "Hannah" in a few weeks in the San Juans.

Von Trotta's "Visions" was shown in 2009 as a part of the tribute and Janet McTeer appears in the film as does Barbara Sukowa in the lead role..  McTeer, who was in "Albert Nobbs" last year in T-ride (and Oscar nominated as a result) was also a guest of the fest back in 2000 with "The King is Alive".  Sukowa was with Von Trotta in Telluride in 2009. Perhaps we'll see all three women in town.

Barbara Sukowa entry: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0837784/
"Hannah Arendt's" IMDb entry: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1674773/

PI VIEW

The interwebs all aquiver today with the posting of a trailer for Ang Lee's "Life of Pi".  It's pretty.  See below:
