News from the OC: Guilds

The Producers Guild and The Writer's Guild announced their nominations today.

Producers nominated these 10 as Best Picture:

“The King’s Speech” (Iain Cunning, Emile Sherman, Gareth Unwin)

“127 Hours” (Danny Boyle, Christian Colson)

Writer's Guild Nominees are:

Adapted Screenplay

“127 Hours”

“I Love You Phillip Morris”

“The Social Network”

“The Town”

“True Grit”

Original Screenplay

“Black Swan”

“The Fighter”

“Inception”

“The Kids Are All Right”

“Please Give”

Of course there were a number of scripts that were ineligible for consideration due to Writer's Guild requirements that they did not meet such as "The King's Speech," "Another Year," "Never Let Me Go," and "The Way Back" among others.

What to take from these guild noms? "The Town" and "127 Hours" are widely considered to be in serious competition with "Winter's Bone" for the 10th Best Picture Oscar nomination. Today's nominations would seem to give them (Town, 127) the edge with 8 spots seemingly solidly locked with 3 weeks to go before the announcement.

Art Directors Guild and USC Scripter nominations are expected tomorrow...we'll see what they tell us.
