Brief Extra to MTFB/FAC

The Film Awards Clearinghouse will be up on Monday morning with a complete final rundown of Oscar nominee probabilities 24 hours before their announcement on Tuesday morning (Jan. 24).

Here are three quick hits to Telluride #38 related Oscar potentials:

A SEPARATION

Occupy!/The Descendants Descends Upon Us/Butter Pix/Silver Linings/Albert Nobbs News/Oscar Pickin'/Odds and Ends

Good Thursday morning, America!

OCCUPY!

I have (and will) continued my "#occupyoscar" movement on Twitter advocating for some "dark horse" Oscar candidates.  Check it and follow me on Twitter @Gort2.

THE DESCENDANTS DROPS

It will come as no surprise to anyone that MTFB/FAC leads off with an immense amount of coverage of Alexander Payne's "The Descendants" which opened on the coasts last night and goes wider tomorrow.  The George Clooney starring vehicle has been the talk of Oscar bloggers since it opened up the Telluride fest as the patrons preview screening on the Friday afternoon that opened the festival (complete with Clooney and Payne and  a brief opportunity for to meet and converse with these two men who in all likelihood will be nominated for Oscar for their work on the film).  It was a fun afternoon.  You can actually read my Playlist review here: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/alexander_payne_george_clooney_riff_on_family_love_loss_death_and_the_choic

So without any further dithering, here is a ton of "Descendants" coverage, interviews and reviews from the past two days or so...

#OccupyOscar/Descendants on the Brink/Shame Continues its Assault/Into Werner's Abyss/The Artist Making Noise/And Finally...

Hello all on a Monday morning in November.  Hope your weekend was good.

#OCCUPYOSCAR

Borrowing from the "We are the 99" movement and the notion of advocating for the underdog, MTFB/FAC has undertaken a twitter project to advocate for under-the-radar and/or unlikely (but I think deserving) Oscar candidates.  You know, peeps like Ezra Miller in "We Need to Talk About Kevin" or Asghar Farhadi's screenplay for "A Separation".  And, of course, all the "Shame" players.  Their chances of getting an Oscar nod are really small but their work was really good.  So look for the hash tag #occupyoscar on Twitter and retweet it or replay or, you know, do that "twitter" thing.

Follow me on Twitter @Gort2

DESCENDANTS ON THE BRINK

By the end of this week Alexander Payne's "The Descendants" will be in theaters.  In the 2 1/2 months since I saw it in Telluride at the Patron's Preview (complete with a passing word of congratulations to George Clooney and Mr. Payne), its stature and buzz have not only continued undiminished, but continued to grow.

It's well reviewed (see my actually published big time review in The Playlist here:
(http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/alexander_payne_george_clooney_riff_on_family_love_loss_death_and_the_choic) and at or near the top of every Oscarologists list in a bunch of categories: Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actress, Adapted Screenplay.

Keeping you current, here is an interview with Payne from this week in The New York Times:

Payne also talked to The Hollywood Reporter.  You can read that here:

SHAME  (AND FOX SEARCHLIGHT) CONTINUES ITS ASSAULT

FS continues to pound the pavement for Steve McQueen's "Shame" and that's all to the good as far as I'm concerned.  This week brings more from McQueen, star Michael Fassbender and co-star Carey Mulligan.  Nominate them all, I say!

HitFix talks to Carey Mulligan here:

Movie City News interviews McQueen and Fassbender here:

Hollywood News also has a brief story here:

INTO WERNER'S ABYSS

Werner Herzog's "Into the Abyss" created quite a bit of buzz on the streets of Telluride in September and continues to make waves as it headed towards its limited release this past weekend.

Here are four posts/stories about the new documentary from Herzog.

THE ARTIST IS MAKING NOISE

The charming and magical "The Artist" from Michel Hazanavicius also continues to gain steam as we move out of fall.  It looks to be a multiple Oscar nominee, at least at this point.

Kenneth Turan at the LA Times appears smitten.  Look at his story here: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-en-artist-essay-20111110,0,7702292.story

AND FINALLY...

Speaking of Oscar (as I have above) here are some of this week's Oscarologists and their musings on where we are in the middle of November.

Abyss Trailer/Vreeland Movement/The Artist Speaking/Clooney's Dilemma/Oscars On Parade/Knightley's Move/Timberlake & Llewyn/

Good Morning everyone from the Oklahoma Panhandle on a Monday...

INTO THE TRAILER!

Werner Herzog's death row documentary has been making waves since its debut in Telluride nearly two months ago.  The Toronto screening seemed to be well received and the film is scheduled for release before the end of the year.  Now comes a trailer for it in good rhythm to keep the heat alive as we continue to careen towards awards season.  You can take a gander at the trailer via www.deathandtaxesmag.com (seriously) here:
http://www.deathandtaxesmag.com/154665/into-the-abyss-trailer-werner-herzog-explores-the-death-penalty/

or more conventionally from The Playlist here:

VREELAND MOVEMENT

Another documentary that played at TFF #38 was "Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel".  Word was out this week that the film has been sold to several foreign markets.  You'll find info concerning that move from both IndieWire here:

THE ARTIST SPEAKING

Michel Hazanavicius' "The Artist" continues to please audiences and rake in Film Fest awards.  Reuters.com posted an interview from The Wrap's Chris Willman (whom we met at Telluride this year in the screening for "Butter", Yikes!  My less than stellar review for "Butter" for The Playlist can be found here:http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/archives/telluride_11_review_jennifer_garners_butter_churns_and_churns_but_doesnt_pr/ ).

Here's Chris' article: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/27/idUS307125124020111027

CLOONEY'S DILEMMA

Oh to be George Clooney...for many reasons not the least of which is the enviable dilemma of having the chance for too many Oscar nominations and campaigns to handle...

Though, frankly, I think his shot at much traction for nominations for "The Ides of March" has come and gone.  But that's just me and my perception of the the way the wind seems to be blowing.

You might want to look at Greg Kilday's piece from The Hollywood Reporter about George's dilemma...

OSCARS ON PARADE

KNIGHTLEY'S MOVE

Speaking of Oscar and Telluride 2011 films, SPC has reportedly decided to campaign for Keira Knightley in the Best Actress category for David Cronenberg's "A Dangerous Method".  There has been a good deal of speculation about where her performance would be slotted (Actress or Supporting Actress?).  My view...don't go there, I thought her performance was over the top.  But I also know from the buzz in T-ride and since that there are a good number of people who thought she was quite good.  Does it mean that there are enough of those to land a nomination?  I'm very skeptical...

HitFix has the lowdown on the SPC decision here:

TIMBERLAKE AND LLEWYN

I tweeted earlier this week that Variety was reporting that the Coen Brothers were high on Justin Timberlake for their new project "Inside Llewyn Davis" (already on board: Carey Mulligan and Oscar Issac).  Now comes a slew of confirmation articles from around the blogosphere.  Take a look:

Herzog Speaks/Fox Searchlight Has Shame/After Kevin/Noah!/Carey and Llewyn/20 Weeks to Oscar

Good Monday Morning (if such a thing is possible).  Just back from Santa Fe and a relaxing fall break.  This week is State One Act Play Contest (Saturday in Bixby, OK.  Bring it!)

HERZOG SPEAKS

Telluride regular, advisor and gadfly Werner Herzog is all over the interweb this past week as he ramps up for the end of year release of his death row documentary "Into the Abyss" which appeared as a part of this year's SHOW.  Herzog can be found holding forth in a couple of places over at IndieWire.

FOX SEARCHLIGHT HAS SHAME

Fox Searchlight continues to be very aggressive in its plans to push Steve McQueen's "Shame" as we get closer to the meat of Oscar (and other awards) seasons.  I have to admire their aggressiveness on behalf of a film that will be a tough sell.  Despite the glowing reviews (including mine) the almost certain NC-17 rating and the raw subject matter will make this an uphill slog.  That being said, FS is reportedly going to push for Fassbender and Mulligan in acting categories (as they should) as well as Best Pic, screenplay and director.  FS (as one of the blogs listed below has said) may be the best suited outfit to champion this film in light of last year's terrific effort for "Black Swan".

Here are a number of posts that reported this past week on Fox Searchlight's strategy.

AFTER "KEVIN"

"We Need to Talk About Kevin" writer/director Lynne Ramsay reportedly has her sights set on her next effort and it sounds, well...odd.  The Playlist (at indieWire) reported this week that Ramsay will adapt "Moby Dick".  Wait, I know that doesn't seem all that odd...here's the kicker...she will reportedly set the film in space...
"Moby Dick in Space"...really.  Take a look at the story form The Playlist:
http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/archives/lynne_ramsays_next_film_is_a_science-fiction_take_on_moby_dick

NOAH!

News from here and there this week about Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" project (Aronofsky was at Telluride last year with the aforementioned "Black Swan").
The Playlist has some hints about what the film might look like based on graphic novel images.  find that here:

MORE LLWEYN DAVIS  (and I think it's exciting news)

Last week we reported that the Coen Brothers had found their actor for the title role in their low budget indie pic "Inside Llewyn Davis" based, at least to some extent, on Dave Van Ronk and the folk music scene in NYC in the early 60's.  That casting tidbit was Oscar Issac from (among other titles) "Drive".  Now The Playlist reports that the Coens have cast the female lead (and if you've seen "Drive", this may make your eyes cross a little) and that is Carey Mulligan.  Mulligan and Issac were husband and wife in "Drive".

Since her appearance in "An Education" my appreciation for Ms. Mulligan has grown and grown and, as many of you know, I'm all about her performance in "Shame".  So I am very excited to see what she and the Coens do together.

Here's a link to Carey Mulligan casting news via The Playlist:

Santa Fe Has Film Too/Fassbender Speaks/Foreign Films at the Fore/Oscar Talk/Herzog Persuades

It's Monday...my apologies...

SANTA FE FILM FESTIVAL

Santa Fe's 12th Independent Film Fest announced its 2011 lineup this weekend.  The fest is set for Oct. 20-23 and I'll be there during a good part of it...but I saw a lot of titles at Telluride...the overlap includes "The Artist" (the opening night film), "Le Havre" and "A Separation".  Titles that are intriguing to me that SFFF announced: "Coriolanus" (which I will miss as it is scheduled for Sunday late afternoon), "The Deep Blue Sea" and "Once Upon a Time in Anatolia", Canadian Oscar entry "Monsieur Lazhar" and "Sleeping Beauty".

The complete Santa Fe lineup can be found on their website here:
http://www.santafefilmfestival.com/schedule-3/

Last year's SFFF included TFF #37 films "Le Quattro Volte", The Princess of Montpensier" as well as Cannes Palme D"Or winner "Uncle Boonmee..."

I don't know how much or which films I will get in.  I'm also looking at trying to get in "The Ides of March" while I'm there...I'll let you know.

FASSBENDER SPEAKS

Red hot actor Michael Fassbender was represented at this year's Telluride Film Festival in two high profile projects, David Cronenberg's (unsuccessful) "A Dangerous Method" and Steve McQueen's (brilliant) "Shame".  Consequently Fassbender is getting a lot of media play.  I have a couple of interviews with him that appeared this week.  The first is from The New York Times.  Find it here:
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/10/07/michael-fassbenders-destructive-journey/?smid=tw-nytimesmovies&seid=auto

The other appears at BBC America.  You can access it here:

Fassbender for Best Actor (for "Shame")...the campaign continues..and for Carey Mulligan in the same film!

FOREIGN FILMS

The deadline for submission for foreign film Oscar consideration has coma and gone.  The complete list includes (as you might expect) a good number of films that were a part of this year's TFF.  Among them:

Le Havre
Pina
The Turin Horse
A Separation
Footnote
In Darkness

The Academy will cut the complete list to 9 films from which the 5 nominated films will be chosen.  Telluride will be well represented when the nominations are announced in this category.

Also in foreign film news related to TFF #38 films, The Playlist's (indieWire) Christopher Bell reviews "The Turin Horse" here:

And Women and Hollywood (indieWire) interviews "In Darkness" director Agniezska Holland here:

OSCAR ITEMS

Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood) and Kris Tapley (InContention/HitFix) have their weekly conversation about the state of the Oscar race on their podcast Oscar Talk which you can link to here:
http://blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/2011/10/07/oscar_talk_clooney_leads_best_actor_field_davis_leads_best_actress_carnage_/

Thompson also has provided her "weekly wrap" of newsworthy items that is both comprehensive and touches/links to many Telluride related stories.  Among topics that she lists are:

The Island President
A Dangerous Method
Into the Abyss
In Darkness
George Harrison:Living in the Material World

Plus a lot more.  You can find it here:
http://blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/2011/10/08/weekly_wrap10/

HERZOG IS PERSUASIVE

And finally word this week that Werner Herzog has persuaded Sundance Selects to release his death penalty documentary "Into the Abyss"  before the end of the year.  He must be very good.  The story is here via The Playlist:

Mea Culpa/Invitation/Playlist Gig/Well, Have You Heard???/And What's REALLY Playing/Final Note

MEA CULPA

First, my apologies.  For not posting/tweeting nearly enough yesterday.  Meant to.  Intended to. Was committed to it.  DROVE 560 miles!  I have to figure out a better way to handle this Thursday before the Festival starts in the future.  Anyway, I am really sorry that I wasn't better in the loop yesterday...sincerely.

A FINAL INVITATION...

I am very pleased to invite all blog readers to an intimate and reflective moment or two this afternoon at 5:00PM at The River Club at 550 Depot St. in Telluride.  My hosts, Larry and Mitzi Mallard are being generous enough to provide me with a forum to do a little meeting and greeting and they're throwing in a nosh and a drink or two.  So come by, say hi, and we'll talk a little film before the ball really gets rolling...

PLAYLIST GIG

You may have seen a quick tweet and/or post yesterday afternoon concerning me, The Playlist and film reviews.  Yes.  It's true.  I'm going to attempt to provide a review here and there this weekend for The Playlist.  It's a very real and impressive cinema blog hosted by IndieWire.com and regular readers of this blog know that I reference them constantly.  They're very good.

Soooo, maybe I get published, maybe not, but a BIG thank you to The Playlist for giving me a shot...

WELL, HAVE YOU HEARD???

I arrived in Telluride at about 9:00 PM local time after about 10 hours on the road...and through the entire journey and even after arrival, I was constantly monitoring Rumor Central...because, let's be real...rumors fly around like untethered kites in the 72 hours before the Telluride Film Festival actually kicks off.

Here's what I think is really real at this point:

1) GEORGE CLOONEY IS IN TOWN AND WILL BE TRIBUTED.  "The Descendants" will play but the best info right now is the "Ides of March" will not.
2) THe RUMOR is that Johnny Depp IS IN TOWN....possibly for a sneak of "The Rum Diary."  Now, I haven't actually seen Mr. Depp...a lot of sources say it's true...BUT, you know...IT'S A RUMOR.
Of course he could be here for the Lauren/Bush wedding...which leads me to
3) 2 former Presidents (Clinton and GW Bush) will be within 10 square miles of me before the weekend is over.  Purportedly Clinton is already here in Mountain Village. Both for the aforementioned wedding.  Oh, and Oprah too...

4) Glenn Close has been reported. in town....nice...

5) Tilda Swinton is here...another Tributee ( a side note...TFF...very sneaky on the playing of "Michael Clayton" in Elks Park Thursday night...so cagey.  I love it!
6) Eugene Hernandez of IndieWire cryptically tweets that there will be 2 and only 2 "Sneaks" and that one will be a comedy and one is a film set for the New York Film Fest...and that these clues could be about the same film or not...thanks, Mr. Hernandez!  My guess is that "Butter" is the comedy...after that...the NYFF presentation could be: "My Week with Marilyn," "Carnage," "The Skin I Live In," "Miss Bala," "Martha, Marcy May Marlene," or "4:44: Last Day on Earth"...or something else entirely.

[My "no guts, no glory" prediction is "Butter" and "Miss Bala"]

7) Keira Knightley rumored in town in support of "A Dangerous Game."  Just a RUMOR!

I will live tweet and blog from the Patron Brunch later this morning...that should settle some things...

AND NOW FOR THE REAL DEAL:

Here's the official announced lineup for the 38th Telluride Film Festival:

Here's the "Twenty Bets" that MTFB made last night with confirmed plays indicated with 3 asterisks ***

1) The Descendants***
2) Into the Abyss***
3) We Have to Talk About Kevin***
4) The Ides of March (I look silly...)
5) A Dangerous Method***
6) Shame***
7) Goodbye First Love***
8) The Skin I Live In (still could be a "sneak")
9) The Artist***
10) Footnote***
11) A Trip to the Moon***
12) The Birds Upstairs
13) Prohibition
14) Le Havre***
15) The Lady
16) Dark Horse
17) Butter
18) Miss Bala
19) Drive
20) Martha Marcy May Marlene

I'm still greedy enough to pull for "Coriolanus," "The Kid with a Bike,"*** "Wuthering Heights"  "W.E." and the Georgre Harrison Doc*** directed by Martin Scorsese.

Additionally, I think MTFB could fairly claim to have been at least marginally aware that "Albert Nobbs" could play as well as "A Separation."

FINAL NOTE (before the fest takes flight...)

I am HOT to see:

"The Descendants"
The Artist"
"Le Havre"
"Living in the Material World"
"A Dangerous Method"
"Shame"
"Albert Nobbs"
"The Kid with a Bike"
"We Need to Talk About Kevin"
"A Separation"
"The Turin Horse"

And whatever the "sneaks" are...

It makes me sad that...
Clooney is a Tributee but no "Ides of March" (Anne Thompson of Thompson on Hollywood @ IndieWire is adamant that Ides is not playing...

No "Tinker, Tailor....I'm too tired to finish the title...

No "Drive"....man, I am really bummed..."Drive" lost traction after its Comic Con screening but I was hoping...

Kind of sad about no "The Lady" or "Dark Horse"

Still and all...no real complaints.  I think TFF #38 looks like a colossal win from the start!

More later today...from the Patron Brunch!

George and Martin/M x 4/Pitt Pitched for Moneyball/Bale and Malick

Hello everyone...

10 days and counting...

GEORGE AND MARTIN

I'm already relatively sure that Werner Herzog's death row doc "Into the Abyss" will be on the TFF #38 playlist in 10 days.  Another documentary that I think could pop up in Telluride is Martin Scorsese's doc about the life and music of the late, great George Harrison.  It's already booked for Toronto, but I think it's a real possibility for T-ride as Scorsese had a good deal of noise from his presentation last year of "A Letter to Elia."

So I don't think it's beyond the real of possibility that we might have some chance to see this in Colorado.

Jeffrey Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere has a brief story and a link to the trailer for the doc here:
http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/2011/08/george.php

The Playlist at IndieWire also has a story and link to the trailer as well as a pic or two here:

MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE

Of the Sundance films this year that might follow the path that "An Education" blazed two years ago (from Park City to T-Ride) the one that seems to have the most heat and greatest chance is "Martha Marcy May Marlene."  A film that played to great acclaim at Sundance winning a directing award for Sean Durkin and earning raves for the acting of Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes.

Yesterday the interweb was all aquiver with material concerning the film...posters, trailers, etc.  In that we could have it as an offering in ten days I am passing on links to various and sundry of what was posted yesterday.

Awards Daily put up a good sized story and links which you can find here:
http://www.awardsdaily.com/2011/08/martha-marcy-may-marlene-official-site-materializes/

Yahoo Movies also with links to posters and the trailer:

PITT PITCHED FOR MONEYBALL

I would be more than a little surprised to see "Moneyball" starring Brad Pitt show up at the SHOW but because it was directed by Bennett Miller I can't rule it out completely.  And admittedly, I would enjoy seeing it in Southwest Colorado in a week and a half.

That being said, New York Magazine Online has a nifty story up about Pitt's willingness to go to bat for the unconventional baseball based true story.  You can find that story here:
http://nymag.com/guides/fallpreview/2011/movies/moneyball/

Moneyball's IMDb page is here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1210166/

BALE AND MALICK

A lot of hoopla the last couple of days about Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life" and what co-star Sean Penn has had to say about the Cannes Palme D'Or winner.  As that has been going on, a good deal of other Malick related news has seeped out.

For example his latest (filmed partly here in Oklahoma and perhaps entitled "The Burial") may be ready for a 2012 release.  Although, I'm dubious as Malick has never been fast about post-production.

Also news from several sources that Malick is looking ahead to his next project and has reportedly looked at casting one of his "New World" collaborators, Oscar winner Christian Bale.

Get the Big Picture.com has that story here:
http://www.getthebigpicture.net/blog/2011/8/21/terrence-malick-to-cast-christian-bale-in-future-

Also another version of that story and the blurb about "The Burial" from Rope of Silicon here:

Late Breaking News/Ten(+) Bets/Kevin's Trailer/Darren Aron-NOAH-sky/My Friend Marlon

Good Morning America!

Back to a real job today for this guy.  Teaching Inservice today and tomorrow.  Classes start Wednesday.
Also...pseudo-waiting...

The 38th Telluride Film Festival starts in 18 days...

LATE BREAKING NEWS

Two items making Telluride connected news late last night.:

1) Ioncinema.com baldly claims what I have expected for some time and that is that Werner Herzog's documentary "Into the Abyss" will play T-ride.  No surprise there.

and 2) Film critic and Telluride regular (and past Silver Medallion recipient) Leonard Maltin had surgery for a detached retina yesterday in El Paso, TX.  Wishing you a speedy recovery, Mr. Maltin!

TEN (+) BETS

There's some chance that we see W.E.

Last week's Ten Bets were:

1) The Descendants
2) Gazing Into the Abyss
3) A Trip to the Moon
4) The Artist
5) We Have to Talk About Kevin
6) Le Havre
7) Prohibition
8) Drive
9) Shame
10) The Kid with a Bike/Dark Horse (tie)

This week's Ten Bets:

1) The Descendants
2) Into the Abyss
3) The Artist
4) A Trip to the Moon
5) We Have to Talk About Kevin
6) Le Havre
7) Prohibition
8) Shame
9) Drive
10) The Kid with a Bike

Here's the "+"
11) Dark Horse
12) The Birds Upstairs
13) The Skin I Live In
14) The Lady
15) W.E.
16) The Ides of March
17) Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
18) Albert Nobbs
19) Coriolanus
20) A Dangerous Method

Note: Kris Tapley at Incontention.com in his July 28th Telluride spec piece listed three Sundance films as possibles, but because they already appeared in Park City, I'm doubtful that they will be in T-ride.  The three are: "Take Shelter," "Like Crazy" and "Martha Marcy May Marlene."

Now that we're down to less than three weeks, I may update the "Ten Bets" list with more frequency than once a week depending what oozes out that I can latch onto.

KEVIN'S ENGLISH TRAILER

A lot of buzz surrounding Lynne Ramsay's "We Need to Talk About Kevin" this last week including a post from the weekend from First Showing.net for the film's U.K. trailer.  Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly star.  The trailer looks appropriately chilling and kind of creepy.  "Kevin" remains at #5 on this week's "Ten Bets."

DARREN ARONOFSKY AND NOAH

Earlier this summer I passed on the news that Darren Aronofsky (director of last year's TFF#37 sensation and multi-Oscar nominated "Black Swan"--Natalie Portman winning Best Actress) was  tackling the Biblical story of Noah as his next project.  Because it's Aronofsky and because "Swan" had such a successful run last year, you have to include "Noah" as a future Telluride possibility at least for the time being.

Get the Big Picture.com posted a fairly substantial speculative piece about that "Noah" project this weekend.  You can take a look at that post here:
http://www.getthebigpicture.net/blog/2011/8/13/we-can-only-speculate-what-noah-will-be-like-under-darren-ar.html?utm

MY FRIEND MARLON

One of the most viewed posts that I put up this summer included my pictures of me and film legend Marlon Brando.  It was fun to relive that two day period when the double Oscar winner and arguably the finest screen actor of all time was in Weatherford, OK.

So, naturally, when I saw the post this week from Open Culture.com that included Brando's screen test for "Rebel Without a Cause" I had to put a link to it here on my blog.  Not only because it's really cool, but also because it gave me another excuse to put up the Brando and me photo...

Here's the link to Brando's screen test (which, of course, was unsuccessful. Some kid named James Dean got the role  The article also has a link to Dean's screen test):
